Correctional Services is hiring correctional officers for Viskan Prison

Correctional Services is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand, and client transport.

Viskan Prison is a closed facility that will start receiving inmates in March 2025. 125 employees work in the operation. The prison has space for 120 inmates and 24 emergency places. The largest professional group is correctional officers, but we also have healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, and more. The inmates will be engaged in education, various treatment programs, or industrial production. The best way to reach Viskan is by car, and you can park in our staff parking.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Working as a correctional officer means that you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. As a correctional officer in the Viskan operational area, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with the client. The tasks at the prison are varied and include, among other things, care, monitoring, searching, security, conversation/motivation work, and planning for the client's execution.

You will begin your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction over three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the mandatory basic training for correctional services, which lasts for 8 weeks. You will receive a salary throughout the training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted for your opportunity for permanent employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important to us. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, and have good self-awareness. Since you will be working with your colleagues to run the operation, you need to have good collaboration skills and the ability to communicate clearly. Good judgment and integrity are required in your professional practice. You must have a physical condition that enables you to act physically when the situation requires.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work do not equate to employment.
• Completed high school education or other education combined with work experience that Correctional Services deems relevant.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.
• Good computer skills.

It is an advantage if you have:

• Work experience from correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, educational work, or healthcare and social care.
• Education in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, or conflict management.
• Other language skills besides Swedish and English.
• Driver's license (B).

OTHER

We have high demands on our employees' security and confidentiality awareness. A security check will precede the decision on employment. Some positions are placed in a security class, and a security assessment with a background check will be conducted before a decision on employment is made. For positions with a higher security class, you must be a Swedish citizen but may have a foreign background.
